Its been getting into the high 90's here where I live and although my room keeps cold compared to the other rooms in the house, I was wondering what a good way to keep my ratties cool during this horrid random heat wave. I change there water twice a day, making sure its cold.

what else can I do?

I one time Put a water bottle in the Freezer over Night, then in the morning when it was blazing hot I Wrapped it in a hand towel and put it in the cage. Every now and then they would sit on it or next to it.
(oh yeah, dont use a hand towel you really like!...lol..)

You can also give them frozen peas to go fishing with, some people give fruit in blocks of ice, a slab of marble for them to lie on...

As I understand it, rats lie with their feet up to cool off, if they are overheating, so that's something to look out for.

if you want to go with Donna's suggestion of a marble slab don't buy the one they sell in the pet stores. You can get a tile twice as big for less at a home depot.
Ooh, good idea!

Thanks guys, seeing I'm at school in the afternoon time, whens its most hot, I'm just trying to find a way to keep them cool when I'm not here to supervise them. [Like I would like to do when they go fishin']

Ill try the frozen water bottle and wrap it up for them. :]

i don't know what you'd call this but i've heard of people taking fabric and filling it with rice before sewing it back up (non cooked rice) thus creating a sort of pillow i guess, and then putting it in the freezer, the rice holds heat and cold very well apparently

Whats the chance of my ladies breaking into their pillow and having too much fun? Lol. Sounds good though!

Plenty, but you may get lucky... they may be so comfortable when they are cool that they can't be bothered to destroy it... we can dream, right? Seriously, though, you might have to repair it a couple of times until they get bored of chewing it, but it sounds like a good idea.

yeah, i wouldn't be surprised if they nibbled through it, but completely destroying it i have my doubts. They're really great as they can serve as a heating pad if ever you have an ill rat, or if ever it is pretty cold.
