Alright so,my neighbor got her daughter a rat about a 9 months ago,And just like what always happens with kids and pets...she is now bored with it and doesnt want to take care of it.She has it in a 10 gallon tank and I dont even remember when the last time she cleaned it or fed it.I went over there about a 3 days ago to help her mom open her garage door and I finally just said something about it to her,because I was simply concerned.Well her mom said that she was tired of her daughter not taking care of it so she said I could have it if I wanted it,if not then it'd be in its current state that it's in right now...in a tank...with dirty bedding...and knocked over bowls and such.(didnt really give me much of a choice haha.)But the only problem with it all is that since im staying with my grandparents,they dont want anymore pets of mine in their house.So now that ive finally been able to convince them that this rat was really needing help, my neighbor has totally changed her mind about everything and now wants to keep it.So yeah this pretty much ruins my day and I dont know how I convince her how important it is that he's at least in a clean enviroment. :roll:

If she has internet access try getting her to join a rat forum somewhere, I'm sure there are plenty of people who would help try to convince her.

If nothing else maybe just try to go over there everyday and check on the rat. Keep showing a concern for it and maybe she'll realize that it's important to properly take care of it.

Maybe you should call animal cruelity on her if she isn't keeping the rat fed ):

That is really horrible that she changed her mind. She just doesn't want to admit you might take better care of the rat! Of course, don't keep him in a tank if she changes her mind again.
