In Estonian forum there was discussion about it.
Seemed, that rats in foreign countries are supposed to live longer. :)
That was about rats from breeder.
Petstore rats were said to live as long as our rats.

We have only two breeders anyway. :?

If you have had many rats, then choose one, or find average lifespan of your rats.
If you decide to choose one try to choose a rat who didn´t die by accident or illness.
I am also more interested about rats from breeders.

Hope that that helps.

Don't be surprised if you don't get a lot of results. Many of us own rats that we got at shelters or rescues, and have no way of knowing where they came from initially.

So far, only two of my rats have died - one at about 4 months (I had her for 3 days, from a pet store), and one at about 10 months (I had him for a couple months, not sure where he came from originally).

I have three girls who were originally from pet stores and one who is the offspring of a pet store rat approaching one year. Three of them are healthy, but one has had one tumor removed recently and another one is growing already.

Rats from good breeders should be healthier and therefore live longer than pet store rats, generally speaking.
