I have three female rats ranging from 6 weeks to 10 weeks. They love, love, love peanuts. And we love giving them peanuts and watching them tear into them.

But peanuts are high in protein, and I know that this could be an issue. How many peanuts would be safe to give to our rats? I'm a bit flummoxed by this.

How are you serving said peanuts? Peanuts aren't really good for rats, and dangerous if not roasted. Roasted peanuts are okay in moderation. I would say no more than a peanut or two a week for rats. There are healthy food alternatives, like cheerios.

Yeah, I had heard about the dangers of raw peanuts.

We give them roasted peanuts in the shell. They love digging out the peas.

Only a peanut or two in a week? Oops, we'll have to back off on that.

But I did try Cheerios, and they eagerly took it. I wonder if Honey Nut Cheerios would be an even bigger treat for them.
