Hi, we got a new rat yesterday to join our existing rat Pip, they are roughly the same age 6 to 8 weeks old and female. I'm new to rats so I need advice on the best way to introduce them to each other, Pip is quite sociable with us but our new rat Storm is very nervous, I don't think she's been socialised much. Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks.

Hi,
I'm assuming she has already been quarantined, so it is safe to proceed with intros. Seeing as they are both so young it shouldn't be too difficult, but you never know. I would first bond the new rat to yourself before putting them together. I would recommend reading RatDaddy's thread on immersion, and doing that with the new girl. Seeing as she is nervous, it will probably help to establish yourself with her first. Once she has been immmersed, then I would proceed with intros. I believe there are already some threads started on how to introduce rats, so I would recommend reading those.

Thanks, she's not been quarantined as such, we have her in a cage in a different part of the house, how long does she need to be quarantined for?
