pocket was a doll from day one, lyiint never got quite as comfortable but would tolerate me for the most part after a few weeks. dust and myght were lovies from day one with but they were at friend's place for nearly 2 weeks before she gave them to me for christmas. nezumi would let me hold her from the first day i met her but would scream bloody murder is anyone else tried to so much as touch her and was nervous with strangers for about a month. spider was always very friendly, walked right up to my hand in the store and started licking it. when she had her babies she would plop them in my hand and go off exploring once they were a couple days old. her sister on the other hand never liked being touched very much and would only tolerate the human flith if spider or one of her adopted sisters were with her at the same time. she was like that for her entire life. twix doesn't really care much if i hold her or i don't hold her. she'll run around the cage if i go take her out most times but that's just her being her and she has always done this. tween will hunch when i go to pick her up but once i put her back she immediately wants out again, she's always been like that too. iedani took some work to get her to trust me and in the end it wasn't enough and she still bit, though much more randomly. kakushi will always protest when i pick her up but once she's on the shoulder she never wants to be put down. she's my squish and would rather hang out with mommy and get stritches then go play with the other rats. it took her about a week, maybe two to get to this level and it has always stayed that way. sweetipie was always a doll and loves being out. i've never had problems getting her to like people. both babydoll and ink will crawl out on your shoulder and on the cage and down to the floor and god only knows where else first chance they get. ink has always been like this but it wasn't until ink cam ehome that babydoll came so far out of her shell. i'm not sure she would have if it weren't for ink. eyes is a lap rat and bribery's girlfriend. she'l hang out with him mostly. for the most part she'll let me do just about anything with her but it wasn't until she was home and in the cage with everyone else for a couple weeks before i found that she would actually play. i've never had an adjustment issue with bribery either though he is the coward of my group and will squeak at his own shadow. Stewy seems to be turning out to be quite the squish too. i just got him here yesterday night and already he comes to me when he's scared and will venture a ways to explore. though he is still completely confused about the higher levels in the cage and wary of the yesterday's news litter. he came to a friend of mine from a hamster cage lined with hay all by himself. then she had him in a guinea pig cage on carefresh for a few weeks. now he's in a hagen chinchilla cage with bribery. he'll get used to the space and start cuddling with bribes soon i'm sure though. right now though he pretty much ignores bribery's existance and hides in his igloo thingy. violet was always very sweet with me, licking me from the first time i held her. she took a while to get used to the other rats but people she was completely content with. now however, after the cage and rat friends have grown in size and number she seems to prefer the cage over play time on the couch. but i suppose the cage has about as much room as the couch and has more toys and hidy holes so i can understand.
anyway, my point in all that was that depending on the situation you got the rat from and even more greatly depending on the rat itself will depict how fast or long it will take for them to warm up with you. but they will love you. even my biter and my autistic rat loved me. they just weren't always as openly affectionate about that love.
