I've been a rattie Mom for a little over a month now. Rosie is a blue dumbo single rat who is about 13 months old. I adopted her from EARPS, an exotic animal rescue here in Indiana.

She is my first rat. I had planned on a pair, but since I was so set on Rosie, I have only one. EARPS did their best to pair Rosie with a buddy, but apparently she doesn't like her own kind. She's a very sweet rat who loves to play hard sometimes and simply cuddle at other times.

By day I'm a Computer Systems Analyst at an insurance company. Please do not hold that against me, as a computer geek, I can change industries! Anyway, it's a living. After all, I have to support not only Rosie, but my other fur children as well. Heck, the house belongs to the animals, they just let me sleep here.

A friend told me about this site, so I figured I'd give it a try. Thanks for putting up with me!

Welcome.

Now do tell, did you ever find Rosie after she ran off with Buck on As The Wheel Turns?

Hi there, welcome to the forums! :)

Why did EARPS say Rosie didn't like her own kind? Do you know what happened?

It would be great to see a picture of Rosie. :)

Forensic: The hunt is still on. Lefteye is on the case.

DonnaK: The EARPS folk did their best to match Rosie with another rat. They tried many times, but it all ended in a fight, with blood drawn. Since Rosie is over a year old, they were trying to find a younger female but without any success. Rosie seems quite content with being an only rat. She's had an off day, not wanting to play, but physically she appeared fine. Come the next day, she was back to playing hard.

What part of SC are you in? I escaped from Charleston on February 28th, 1995 at around 8am. I visit my Parental Units and Female Sibling & Offspring during the month of December. I have no urge to ever move back.

Here's Rosie doing her exercises... STRETCH 2, 3, 4

I'm near Columbia. Why didn't you like South Carolina?

The reason I asked about Rosie is that I introduced a 15 month old to a 5 month old a few months back. The older one had always been on her own, wasn't very sociable and we'd had a biting incident. It took a couple of weeks, but we did it and you wouldn't believe the difference in her now. 3 months on and I still can't believe it when I have her the crook of my arm for some serious back skritching... we never thought we'd see the day, tbh.

DonnaK: I know EARPS tried to get a buddy for her for at least 2 weeks, more like 3, I believe. At the moment I only have one large cage, so I'm afraid to try and introduce another little girl. If it goes badly, I'd have to get another cage and worry about that one being lonely. It's sort of a vicious circle.

As for SC... 20 years was enough. I moved there from Massachusetts (Yankee land), with my family of course, at age 10 and as soon as I was offered a good paying job, I was out of there. I like the history and all, so if there was a way to get rid of ALL the people, I wouldn't mind living there. ;-)
