I know the leaves are poisonous, but is it okay to put the branches in the cage? My mom's plant had a huge branch fall off and it was all twisty and looked cool, so she kept it and dried it out. She wanted to give it to me for the rats, but I'm not sure if I can put it in their cage (they might chew it). Any ideas? Google hasn't been helpful at all :(

If google doesn't know I would probably play it safe. I have a pothos plant that I knew was toxic to humans and pets but I just found out that even contact with the branches can be dangerous. Obviously a whole different plant and I don't know hydrangeas, but if it were me I wouldn't risk it especially given how much rats love chewing. That said, my cat has eaten several toxic houseplants and lived through it with no ill effects.
