Luckily I don't have to deal with this but just something that came to mind. Lets say you have a male rat that is neutered and you get a female rat that ends up giving birth (got pregnant in her last home). What would be best in this situation both before or after she gives birth?

Would he hurt the babies or the mom or would he act like a father rat?

I'd err on the side of caution and take the neutered male out before the female gives birth. Some males, neutered or not, will kill the babies or otherwise cause enough stress to the female that she neglects the babies and they die. I'd also keep the male's new cage next to the female's cage so they can still see and smell each other.
