I know it's not the stores fault but...

Ok I went to my fav pet store today and they had this rat that had MAJOR over grown teeth. I mean the bottom teeth are cuting up the side of this babys face!! I went to the top lady (second manager or somthing) and told her but.... they can't DO anything...he'll be snake food... if I had the money I'd go buy the baby and take'em to the vet but I can't afford to...

HOW in ratsys name does this happen to a baby not even 4 month old!!!!

In a babe that young, it's usually trauma that cause malocclusion (where the teeth don't line up right so they can't brux them down) or genetic malformation. :/

Poor little guy, it's hard to take care of rats like that.

Iota, the little British rat that I'm "sponsoring," (and Gus' girlfriend.) was born wiith severe malocclusion, and was almost sent to heaven at an early age. Luckily, the people at Cavy Rat Rescue found her, and paid for her operations, and now they take care of her and give her good foods that she can eat!

Poor rat...

Rats with malocclusion need a lot of vet care - either by way of constant trimming to correct the problem (sometimes possible), or surgery to completely remove the incisors. If they're just letting the rat suffer, I'd purchase him and, if I were unable to care for him/get him surgery, have him euthanized. At least then he'd be out of his misery and not be eaten alive by a snake.

I might go to the store tomarow and see if he's still there.....if he is is there anybody in or near Santa cruz that can help?

That's one thing I was thinking about but I have a big feeling he's not going to be.
