I went to PetCo today to use a coupon on fish supplies, and I ended up finding what I think is a most ingenious rat toy!
It's a bird toy (Lucky Bird Toys), technically, but it's this super strong feeling plastic (bullet proff, they insist... tell me, who shoots at bird toys? I've heard of clay pidgeons, but I think this is taking it a little far!), in the shape of a treasure chest, maybe four inches long and two inches high. On the sides are cutout shapes about three quarters of an inch wide, triangle, square, etc, and inside are little shapes of wood. The whole thing can hang on a chain.
It's the perfect place to stash a few treats, fresh veggies or whatnot, and make the ratties work a little for their food! Something to keep them entertained for a bit. And it looks heavy duty enough to withstand some chewing, too.
Course, I don't have my rats yet, so it hasn't been tested, but I'll be sure to update when I know.
Just thought I'd share. It's on sale right now, too. Or at least, it is in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
