If you'd like advice, this is the place. The first thing (and xlil_leax already alluded to this) that we will tell you is to go get another rat! Rats do best in same-sex pairs, and they really need that companionship when you are not around.
If you'd like more advice, we need to know some more things. For example,
What kind of cage is it? What are the dimensions?
What kind of litter do you use?
What are you feeding your new rat (hopefully soon to be rats)?
Where did the rat come from?
That's all I can think of for now.

Yes definately need another rat of the same sex. They take care of each other in ways that you cannot. For instance, they clean each other in places they cannot reach themselves, and provide companionship, something to do, and most of all, the rat WILL be happier. Lone rats seem to get really neurotic.
i just got my first proper rats yerterday!(by prooper i mean i was takin care of my friends for like 1 month)basicaly, to socilaize make sure you take it slow, and when there comftorbaly with you try putting them down your jumper, and allways be sure to give them treats! but rally most importsnt os make sure you have atleast two, and love them!remember toys dont have to be expensive so there is no excuse! throw in some boxes, tubes, socks, anything!

Did you only get one? If so, you should get another one to keep him company. The same sex probobly unless the boy is nutered, if u have a girl currently. You will find out alot of information on these forums.
