My first rat Beatrix, never really liked sleeping in houses she perfered just sleeping in a bunch of sheets and making a nest out of it, so I never really bothered wih houses.

Well I got another rat named Bailey, and she definitely loves them. The problem is, she gets VERY territorial, and drags ALL of the food I give them into her house and when my other rat Beatrix goes to get some food she goes mental and starts chasing and nipping her.

So houses are definitely out of the picture. I'm getting some hammocks made out of denim because my rats love to chew everything they can get their hands on (i've even caught Beatrix try and chew on her ceramic food bowl) so hopefully denim will hold up a bit longer.

ANYHOO, I need some idea's to make their cake more fun. Their cage is three stories high, big enough for two ratties.

Hammocks are loads of fun, I use empty tissue boxes, cardboard boxes, and other things like that, that are safe. Then i hide little treats inside to help them want to explore the new toy more. Toilet paper rolls are fun for them as well. Heres a site i get some ideas from too :).

Ive found lots of cheep ideas, Ive looked at everything im throwing away to see if it might be good. I have strong fence wire and ive wraped it round a weekend block and attached it to the side of the cage so they have to climb to chew. Card board boxes with a rat sized hole in have been a big hit especially with food hidden in them. I sealed a yogurt drop in a little card board box so i guess they chew there way though to that soon. Rat food pinyata sounds fun too.
