i would like to do playtime with my rats in my own room, but it’s carpeted, and i’m curious to if i can lay a rug down to avoid any damage to the carpet. would this be safe? and would this hurt the rats in any way, if the were to chew it? (and, more specifically, is it acceptable if it is a fake fur rug? like, would it be dangerous? if not i have normal rugs- but i’m curious.) i should mention my rats are pretty old and not prone to chewing, but i just don’t want my carpet ruined haha. thank you!

I would be wary of using any rug that has the potential to create extra dust, since ratties can be so susceptible to respiratory problems. We let ours just run around on the carpet and haven't had any problems with chewing.
