I'm still keeping my rats in the starter cage until my DCN arrives later this week. In the meantime, I've used a big box as a playground for them (with the lid flaps taped up because I've learned one of them can easily catch onto a lip 13 inches high). I also have a small box that I cut holes in to give them a fun diversion. It works fine while I'm watching them.
I'm tempted to put the small box in the DCN so they can continue playing in it, but it is held together with packing tape. I know that the rats will eventually start chewing the box. Will the packing tape give them trouble? I could fix this by removing the packing tape and folding the bottom flaps to maintain the box's integrity. In fact, I think I will do that right now. But I'm curious if things held together with tape would be a problem when left to the rats' devices.
