i was looking around in a local pet store today and i saw a food that got my attention because it said it was for rats, and dident metion mice or other small animals, i wanted to run it by some experts here before i started feeding it to my rats though. its called Reggie Rat, by Supreme Petfoods Limited, heres the info

Crude protein (min)----12.5%
Crude fat (min)---------1.5%
Crude fiber (min)-------4%
Crude fiber (max)------8%
Moisture (max)---------13%
Vitamin A----------------4535 iu/lb
Vitamin D3--------------455 iu/lb
Vitamin E----------------23 iu/lb

ingredients:
Ground Whole Wheat, Dehulled Soybean Meal, Whole Corn, Dehydrated Alfalfa Pellets, Flaked Corn, Whole Oats, Toasted Wheat, Ground Cereal Straw Pellets, Flaked Field Beans, Flaked Field Peas, Soybean Oil, Wheat Middlings, Salt, Dicalcium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Yeast Extract, Chicory Extract (i dident relise how long this would take when i started typeing lol) Vitamin E Supplement, FD & C yellow No. 6, Zinc Oxide, FD & C Yellow No. 5, Choline Chloride, Ferrous Sulfate, Nicotinic Acid, Manganese Oxide, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Copper Sulfate, Vitamin B12 Suppliment, Vitamin D3 Suplement, Sodium Selenite, Vitamin A suppliment, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Source of Vitamin B6), Menadione Nicotinamide Bisulfate Complex (Source of Vitamin K activity), Thiamine Hydrochloride, Folic Acid, FD & C Blue No. 1, Calcium Iodate, Cobalt Carbonate.

Don't buy Reggie Rat, it's doesn't have enough nutritional value for rats.

Most folks recommend Harlan Teklab (sp?), which can be ordered online. Right now I'm using Mazuri blocks (supplmented with Suebee's mix, veggies, fruit, and the occassional treat).

Harlan Teklan or Regal Rat (from Oxbow) are your best bets. A lot of stores that carry Oxbow products are willing to special order Regal Rat for you... which cuts down on the amount that you spend on shipping. Here's their site:

There's a sticky about diet in the Rat Health section of this forum, which is pretty good. It even has a list of stuff to put in Suebees, if you can't find HT or Regal Rat.
