So my hairless girl, Victoria, had a lump on her throat. Vet saw 3 and took a cell sample to see if its canerous or not. results came back as an infection. She is on medecine now.

So i woke up, took her out for her morning meds...and she looks terrible. breathing hard. making some weird noise(like a ferret dukin kind of), and i offered her food and treats and shes refusing. She keeps jerking her head foward. And her lump seeems lower or larger. She looked fine at midnite.

I don't think she will make it much longer...So today i'm going to see if i can get a vet to see if anything can be done. if not, i won't let her suffer. i will have her put down.

I figured this would happen since its on her throat, which will stop her eatign and breathin...but she was put on meds, so i was hopefull.

Sorry i totally rambled but i just dnt know what to do

She's lookin better now. No more weird noises, no struggling for breath and shes eatin and drinkin. i'm still concerned but am waitin for the vet. f any other signs occur, shell be seein an e-vet.

Surgery is costly for me and risky for her. I'm gonna try the antibiotics.

I dont get what was wrong before. shes fine now.

sounds liek an abscess really and that can be treated at home all you have to do is a hot compress regularly pm me for more info I can email you detailed instructions. I have dealt with MANY abscesses in my time with rats and all my ratties have pulled through just fine.

This is not a typical abscess! That is sick rat, with the respiratory and lack of hunger. Is she new to the colony? Have you brought in a new rat recently and didn't do a full proper (separate airspace) quarantine?

Actually LilSpaz the resp issues could be from the abscess being there so long that the infection spread. I have seen it happen before she has her on antibiotics so that is a good thing. The absces really needs to go. That is probably why the lack of eating (it seems to be in the same palce as my other rat Riff Raff's) Once the abscess was popped he started eating and drinking again.

She is eatin and drinkin now. and the wheezin or whatever the noise was is now gone. those terrible symptoms dissapeared. shes back to normal.

She was quareenteened for like a week with a baby she had. she looked fine. She isn't new. its been maybe 2 months.
I'm thinkin about callin a vet and upping her antibiotic dosage or looking into a stronger one.

What antibiotic is she on? whatis the dosage? the best combo i have ever had is Baytril (aka vibramycin) and doxy mixed. I also have had alot of luck with ammoxicillin believe it or not LoL you can buy that online or any where you get fish meds. (i use aquatic care amoxicillin)

keep her on the trimeth, its very good for bacterial infections.

I am soo glad to hear that she's not new, with symptoms like that I always thinki of SDA and want to rule it out first and foremost.

Have you done compresses on the abscess?
