My rat has been scratching her skin off since last year. We thought it could be mites, so we brought her to the vet. The vet gave us revolution, twice, and it didn't even improve the symptoms. Then we went in for a third time, did a skin scraping, and no mites showed up under the microscope (the vet took samples from 3 different areas). She did a 5 day course of anti-inflammatories, but again, no improvement.

Is this rat just neurotic? If it's not mites, or any other external parasites, then what could it be?

Food Oxbow Regal Rat diet for adult rats
Bedding: White Carefresh paper bedding

What's going on?

Thanks a lot.

I've read that it's possible for rats to have allergies. I believe there is dosing information on rathealthguide for giving them childrens Benadryl. Maybe try that and see if she responds at all.
