My young rats are always trying to escape (I don't know why, they have a lovely cage and a huge playpen).

Anyway, my Pookie has been trying to escape from her playpen by simply jumping up the walls. The walls of the playpen are made from cardboard boxes and about two feet high. Well, she almost made it a couple of times, and made me wonder what's in store for me. How high can fully grown rats jump? What else can I make a playpen wall out of? I don't think this one will contain her much longer.

my girls (around 2 months old) can jump out of the bathtub quite easily..and the point of putting them in there was so they wouldn't get OUT and could have playtime with the toys inside!

If they have a wall to assist them they can get VERY high. I've seen my boy Puck do 2.5 feet without a wall. I'd suggest a roof to the playpen or an overhang.
