Have any of you ever given these chew toys to your rats before? I'm wondering if they can cause splinters. I read that they're safe for rats, but I'm not too sure.

One of my rats has an abscess in his mouth area, and I'm trying to figure out where it came from. I took him to my vet on Monday, and she ran some tests which came back today. We've determined that the lump isn't cancerous, but she said that abscesses like these usually come from a cut or a bite getting infected. Since he doesn't fight too hard with his cage mate, I feel like something else like a splinter may have caused the infection.

Yeah, he's on antibiotics, and they seem to be helping. The swelling has gone down a lot, and I think the dead skin around where the abscess was is just peeling now.
