So I finally got a cage big enough for all 5 of my ratties (old double ferret nation) and since I'm using fleece liners I decided to litter train. I had started training 4 of them but it just didn't work and since they were still on bedding, I gave up on it. The cage came with a ferret litter box, fairly deep and I tossed in some of the old type of litter they used to use and I was shocked to see that there was almost NO poo outside of the box, ever. Only a little on the second floor. Logical next step" rat poops on second floor, put litter box there. But..... now they aren't using the litter boxes nearly as much. Poop is everywhere. GAH! Rats like to be nonsensical things don't they? Any ideas as to how to teach them to use both litter boxes? Or should I just remove the one on the second shelf and waste 11 bucks?
