Hi everyone,

I noticed a couple of days ago that my youngest rat Brooklyn had a little lump on the back of his head. Today it was really prominent and I'm starting to worry. Is this normal? I don't think he's hurt himself, but he seems a lot more lethargic and quiet than my other rat Austin.

Here's a picture. Arrow points to the lump (click image for bigger view):

I'm really worried :( is this normal for a male dumbo rat? Should I take him to the vet?

Thank you all...

Does it feel firm and muscular? Dumbos (especially well built males) often have a bulge of muscle on the back of there head / necks which is perfectly normal though not the prettiest, you don't notice it the same on top eared rats but again well built males will have a muscle ridge (much like human body builders

Hi there,

Yes, just feels like an extention of bone. It may have always been there and I didn't notice, but I watched him running around quite closely and saw it. He is ok :) your post has really reassured me, so thank you.
