Male rat intros? Help needed!

581 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Tedology
Algernon, my heart rat, had been a solo rat for some time because he was always very aggressive with other ratties. I have tried getting him a friend, I really have. Its time to try again. Recently, I got a new male, Asher. Over the past few months, I have been introducing them. Algernon injured Asher and I haven't had them together since. Today, I tried putting them together in a neutral space. Algernon bit Asher hard. Any tips? I really need help.

Btw, I have tried everything. Ive bathed them together, spread baby food on them taken them outside. etc. Algernon poofs up and rubs himself on Asher. I can get him to unpoof by singing.
I'm curious why you want Algernon to have a friend? Is he showing signs of depression without a rat buddy?

I guess I'm of the school: "If it's not broken, why fix it?" If Algernon is content being a bachelor/lone wolf...why force it?

(Unless you want Asher to have a friend because Asher seems depressed?)
I wish I could be helpful here, but all my male rats were neutered. I had three boys from the same litter and when one decided to be king - I neutered all three and introduced them to my mixed mischief. Prior to that decision, I had been fostering them hoping they would be adopted by someone else.

I wanted Asher to have a friend, but now I guess I will just have to adopt another younger male rat.

I think that may make both you and Asher happy. :)
