Ive dealt with them before, tiny little bugs on my rats back. I usually give them a special bath that does the trick (vegetable oil and unscented soap, was given this tip a long time ago) but i have two boys that absolutely hate water and i can imagine them tearing at my skin to get away.

i've looked online for treatments but everything i find has some sort of risk,I hear alot about revolution but I wouldn't know what one to get and what dosage, ive also read bad things about revolution so i'm scared to try anything with risks

the more info on treatments the merrier , thank you in advance..

Hi.
I have used Revolution before for mites. I bought the kitten Revolution, and gave them 0.02ml each on the back of the neck.
It is like a tiny drop per rat, as if you were squirting a tiny drop of it out of a syringe needle.
My rats have never had any ill effects from it, and it cleared up the mites very well.
Can you buy it over the counter in Australia?

P.S. Here is an article about Revolution (selamectin). It has some guidelines about when not to use it (e.g. under a certain age) and safety considerations like that.

And also here is the Rat Guide article about treating ectoparasites in general.

Thankyou, ive heard of it being really bad for them if they lick it off so that was my biggest concern

also yes we can get it over the counter here, though i can only find revolution for puppies and kittens. no kitten specifics, is that okay...?

If you put it up on their neck sort of between shoulders they shouldn't be able to reach it themselves.
And to stop them licking it off each other, give them a few minutes apart after applying to let it evaporate (y).
