I've had my ratties for about one month now and have a few bumps on my skin: on my shoulder mostly, where they often sit. The rash is very itchy and I was wondering if it came from the rats. Could they have mites? How would I know if they do? And how would I get rid of the mites? How do you treat mite bites on humans?

Or is there any other itchy rash humans can get from rats?

Could be an allergy, I guess. The first bump I noticed was right on a rat scratch.

And no, the rats are fine. No bumps, lost fur or scabs anywhere. They do scratch, but I don't have enough experience to tell if they scratch abnormally much. I can't see any insects on them, either, but I read that mites are too small to see anyway.

Mites won't feed on you and you would notice the scabs and insane scratchign from your rats first. Sounds like you are allergic to the urine under their nails, they scratch you, and you welt up.

It's called hives. Makes sure to cover up before ratties climb on you. When you do get hives, take an allergy pill and rinse cold water on your welts.
