Does anyone know how much a baby rat would cost a like petsmart or something?

Depending. Petsmart tries to get more money for the 'prettier' verieties, but it's best to choose by personality than looks.

Dumbos and Blues are round $12USD, and hoodeds are about 8 or 9 USD.

Choose on personality and health. And it's best to get two.

Especially with pet stores try to watch the rats you like for a while. See if they're sneezing, or acting funny, or anything.

Pet stores charge more for different "kinds" of rats. Which is silly, really. I believe it's between $7 up to $20 for some.

After going through what I had to with two that I got from a pet store, I would suggest finding a rescue or breeder in your area. I will never get one from a store again.

As far as price, the adoption price the rescue here charges is about the same a purchasing one at a pet store. And the chances you get a healthy rat from a rescue is much greater than a petstore.

Um.. Why don't you adopt from the SPCA or a rescue? When you buy from a pet store all you're doing is promoting the deaths and homeless rat populations. It's cheaper, at least here, it's only $5 to adopt a rat from the SPCA.
