I'm moving in about three months from California to Missouri. I don't know how to transport my rats! There are a couple of airlines that are willing to put rats as cargo but the fee is $100 and the cost for each airline ticket was about $100 more than other airlines. I can't afford it! Is there a less costly way to take my rats with me? I have two and I love them both.

airlines are notorious for being difficult with any pet but especailly so with rodents and rats in particular. the best way to get your rats to come with you is to drive them there. there are some pet taxi services about in some areas. they'll transport your pets for you accross whole states or provinces if necessary. i don't know all the particulars but its something to look into. otherwise you may have to drive them yourself or arrange a rat train with other rat lovers or a breeder in your area. i realise it will take a LONG time to drive all that distance and no animal- pet or human- likes to travel that far in a car but if you want to get you rats to come with you its either raise the funds somehow (garage or bake sale, etc) or drive them. hopefully you can find a train or professionals though and that would make it a bit easier
