And succeeding.

Tonight I had to full clean the cage. So, since intros had gone so well last night I put them in the tub and shut the bathroom door to clean. I checked up on them every now and again and they all seemed content to curl up in the house with each other and sleep. (YAY!)

That was, until I opened the door to find a curious little black face at eye level. Three shelves up in my closet, was Puck.

Seems I forgot that my Pucky boy is half-rat, half-kangaroo. He must have jumped out of the tub, climbed into the first shelf and then I have no idea where he went from there. The other five hadn't even moved.

Luckily, Puck just climbed onto my hand... but when I put him back in the tub he jumped onto my shoulder. Silly ratty!

lol and thats why we love our ratties even if they do give us heart failure... I remember once one of my girls just dived off my shoulder - no warning - no reason.... that really scared me :):):)

I still don't know for sure how Gus gets in and out of that drawer in the bathroom that he has claimed as "his." He's a pretty big boy, now, but I guess not too big to squeeze into "his" drawer (formerly "my" drawer.)

i can definitely relate. i've had a bit of rat-induced insomnia ever since i bought that new cage with the kind of big bar-spacing. i patched up the wide places where i saw her escaping, but before i figured out where those slightly wider places were, i woke up every couple of hours between midnight and 6 am with skunk (the oldest, bravest one) literally on my face. i guess she escaped, climbed up the side of the bed and under the blankets. do you know how weird it feels to have something furry claw its way up your bare leg while you're asleep?

even though i've mended the wide spaces in the cage, i still wake up with a jolt of adrenaline every time i hear something move (and i hear a lot of somethings, with four rats and a turtle in my room, and two dogs loose in the house outside my bedroom door). oh, rats... if only they were not quite so curious... but that's part of what's endearing, i suppose.

I guess you're lucky it didn't find away to escape altogether
Yes. THough I'd checked that there was no way out of the bathroom as a whole prior to leaving them alone... but if he'd gotten up to the top I probably couldn't have found him, since those shelves are above my head. :?
