My rat has an eye more closed that the other

Today I realised that one of my rat's eyes was slightly more closed that the other, I've had her for a short period of time so I'm kinda new at this, I don't know if I should worry or not. It has been like this for the whole afternoon.

It looks a bit crusty around the lids so hopefully it may just be a bit of gungy porphyrin that glued her eyelid shut when she was asleep. This happens occasionally and they usually clean it up themselves. If it is still like that the next day try cleaning gently with a cotton pad and warm saline(though they don’t like it).If it gets worse then I would take her to a vet.
My rat has had a very similar thing since she was born. First thread I made when I got here was about it. I’m pretty sure at least with my rat it’s just a birth defect. She closes her eye partly a lot and has porphyrin around her eye sometimes. Keep an eye on her though. If you want to check out my thread for answers sooner then it called “what is wrong with my rats eye” for me it’s in the recommended reading.

This is it the morning after, idk if one eye is slightly bulging out or if the other is a bit closed for some reason. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do.

Looks like my rat. As long as she shows no other signs of a problem you should be fine. If she is otherwise happy and healthy just leave her alone.
I was thinking that too.In the recent pictures her eye looks better.I have never come across this but it is possible its just her anatomy? maybe it will even out as she develops?

Your welcome. Also I did not say it earlier but welcome to the rat forum. Don’t be shy to ask anything else I have found that this is a very welcoming forum.

Thank you. Absolutely, you can’t imagine how happy I was when i found out this page existed.
I recently heard of a condition called microphthalmia which is when a rat is born with one eye smaller than the other. It occurs in the womb during development and won't even out later. Maybe that is what your rat has? Apparently cats and dogs can also have this condition.

Also, your rat is soo cute! I love her markings! 😍

Thank you!! It’s a possibility. I think it’s getting a bit better now.
