Well, I first had the top part as a cage for two rats, but it was a little small. I replaced it with the purple one but it was a little small for the third rat that I picked up. So how to solve this problem of two cages that are pretty close in length and width?
First I took the top of the old cage (black) and zip tied it securely on top of the purple cage. I used ten zip ties. Then I took a wire cutter and cut a hole in the top of the purple cage. I filed down the edges and arranged the hammock in the bottom so they could get to the top. I'd have to say it turned out pretty well.
According to the rat cage calculator I have room for another rat
