So without going into a LONG LONG LONG story i'll break it down in a "not so long" paragraph or two. So as everyone knows there is no cure for mycoplasma BUT i have found a great ... no, no... AMAZEING treatment option. The name of the product is Tetracycline. I was suggested this product for one of my sweet mousies when he had a bad eye infection. Though my sweet love lost his sight in one eye this product saved his life. Later when i decided on getting ratties i was doing some research when i discovered that because this product is a antibiotic it can be used to help with mycoplasma symptoms. I was so happy when i read this! Sence then i have givein my ratties a doesage of the medication every night before bed. Though they dont enjoy it ( escp. my banksy - ,-) it is working!!!! Sneezing has nearly dissappered after only 1 week of treatment!

I can post pictures of the box if anyone is intrested!!

Now as for where you can buy this. I bought mine from PetSmart. It was in the fish section of the store and comes in a box with the word Tetracycline in big letters. It was a bit pricey but MUCH cheaper than alot of the other treatment options out there.

How i give the medication to my sweet loves. I simply measure out about 2 TSP of maple syurp ( pancake syrup) and about 3 TSP of water to make it less thick. I then mix in about a qauter of a small packet of the medication ( its in powder form) stir it all together well and then give it to my sweet babies in a medicen dropper 8). Yuri LOVES the medication and usually wants more than i feel comfy giveing him ( because it is an antibitoic they can not overdoes on it) as for banksy its a bit of a fight and MANY loveing kisses and treats afterwards.

I love this treatment. I have heard nearly NO sneezeing sence i started giveing them the treatment.

Pleas feel free to comment and also if you have a treatment that works well for you. I'm always intrested.

Here is an artical that i enjoyed, It goes over what mycoplasma is, how it affects your ratties, and several treatment options. http://ratfanclub.org/resp.html

Enjoy. 8)

P.S pleas feel free to ask me questions and or comment on the medication.

Well your ratters were only sneezing right? Most antibiotics will take care of that even tetracycline. BUT you have to remember that antibiotics are carefully given based on weight and concentration of the antibiotic (mg/ml usually) and a recommended dosage. If you had under-dosed your rats it wouldn't have helped and possibly made the bacterium more resistant in the future.

Doxycycline is the minimum antibiotic I would use for a sick rat, but it doesn't always mean it will work.

I am glad your babies are doing well, but it likely won't work for everyone, so should only be touted as a treatment that worked for you, not as a treatmwent for Myco.
