Hi , ive noticed over the last couple days that my eldest girls nails are getting very sharp.
They are similar to rose thorns in sharpness and shape.Ive had a look and can see the blood vessel inside the nail but am still worried i might hurt her if she squirms.
Ive also read putting a stone or brick in the cage can reduce the need for clipping but at this stage will a simple rough brick be enough to take off the 2-3 milimetres that looks like needs removing ?
Do rats actively try and shorten their nails themselves or is it just a matter of how many times they walk over the rock/brick ?
If its atall possible id rather do it myself as the vets is pretty far away and i can imagine itd be expensive compared to how much time they actually spend doing it.

I find just putting a rough brick or rock under the water bottle helps a lot. Try that for a little while before you clip her nails. It really does make a huge difference, I found it did anyway.
