Ok I was at Petco today and there's 6 rat tanks, 3 for boys and 3 for girls and then small, med and large. I really like alot of the bigger rats cause I have seen them there for a while and kinda know their behavior now. But today in the small rat tank they had some adorable babies. I can't decide which to get, I know adults will be mello, but also have a higher chance of being ill. I'm still not sure on which sex to get, males I hear are calmer while females are active.

What I am looking for are rats that I can have sit with me or like to nap on me while I watch tv or on the computer. I don't want one so lazy I have to check their breathe with a mirror everyday to see if they are alive.

If you want a lap rat you will probably want a male. However, every male has a different personality, and they probably will still be hyper as a baby for at least a little while.

One time I found my male rat Ostrich on his back, and he didn't appear to be moving. I nearly had the witts scared outt me because i poked him, and he still didn't move. When I picked him up he sprung to life, and looked rather indignant that I woke him from such a deep nap! LOL

anyhoo......... If the petstore hasn't been socializing their rats properly you might have a harder time getting the adults to warm up to you! I think younger rats would respond more quickly to you!

as for male or female, if you really want a rat to nap on you, I'd say your best bet is a male! My Ostrich LOVES to nap and be pet but he prefers to lay on my comfy bed and be pet until he falls asleep rather than fall asleep on me!

My female rat, for the most part, is still a wild child but she recently let me hold her for a long time and pet her sooo i dunno. It really comes down to the individual rat but everything I've read suggests males are the lap rats!!!

Good luck with the rattie hunt, and let us know what you decide. Post pics so we can all post with "awwwww they are so cute" because when confronted with rattie pictures we are all get dumfounded, forget how to write, and end up going ga ga eyed at the screen :) but they ARE SOOOO CUTE!!!!!!! ok i'm done :)
