Hi there! My name is Leah, originally from Queens, NY now living in Binghamton. I'm a fairly new rat mother of five. The story goes, I met a girl back in September '06 in my geology class who was hiding two pet rats in her dorm room. She was going on about how great of pets they were. Well, within two weeks I had my first two rats and a Martin's rat highrise (I now realize that this is MUCH too small.. more on this later!). Within a couple of weeks though, I could see Darwin, my dumbo-eared girl, was getting quite hefty, and when I saw her starting to build a nest one morning I nearly had a heart attack! It prepared me for later when I found FitzRoy (my hooded-ish female) huddled in the downstairs compartment, and about 18 pinkies in the top with Darwin!

From this litter we only kept two males, Gollum (a hairless) and [Big] Ben (dumbo-eared rex). Both sweethearts who love to sit for a good long petting!

The other day I couldn't resist and bought a new little addition, a male whose color I haven't quite been able to figure out yet. It's a bluish, tannish silver. He's very calm, but is nervous when picked up and poops quite a bit. He seems otherwise healthy though, but I have a suspicion that he was weaned too young.

That's it for my rats! I just bought a Martin's Rat Skyscraper for my males, and I'm going to mouth my girls' Highrise on a deep 30-gallon tank so they have more room to move around. Meaning my wonderful boyfriend is going to figure out how to do it for me!

As for me, I'm a nearly 22-year-old college student working on my B.S. in Anthropology. I'll be graduating in May, and hopefully attending graduate school for biomedical anthropology in the fall. I live in Johnson City (Binghamton, NY) with my boyfriend, kitten Jack, and five rats. I'm a crazy metalhead, keeping that part of my personality closeted, as I work for a well-respected law firm! Heavy metal is all I really listen to, along with some classic rock music stations.

That's all.. quite a long introduction!
