Hi!
I´ve been hanging around this forum for a little while, and have decided it´s time to jump in an introduce myself!

I´m a student of Air Traffic Control at the University of North Dakota, although I´m studing in Spain right now (but classes end tomorrow!). I´ll be going into my junior year, and finally getting an apartment next semester, and it´s high time I got rats again, after two years of dorm!
I´ve had 11 rats from about 2nd grade until my sophomore year in high school (small break about eigth grade), and a few mice, too. But rats are by far the superior pet!

My main question is, does anyone know any breeders in the eastern North Dakota or Minneapolis/St Paul/Western Minnesota areas who breed, well, something other than hooded, planned for an early September pickup (specifically, Labor day weekend)? I would love Siamese, but a pair of any solid light color would be fine. Or masked. And if anyone breeds dumbo in that area... perfect! I had a dumbo once, she was the best rat ever. I know that had nothing to do with it, but now dumbos have a very pleasant association for me. I´ve just always had PetCo hoodeds (and very great rats, all of them), but I´d like to try something a little more exotic (to me), and to see what breeder rats are like.

Thanks!

I do know there are numerous rescues in that area. Check petfinder.com... always seems to be tons. September is four months out, I don't think litters available then will be born yet, though I suppose you could contact the breeder and ask if they're planning on a litter.

Welcome. :)

Yes, I thought about doing a rescue. But that's hard to know who's around until the time, and I only have a few opportunities to get into the Twin Cities (I assure you it's a fluke if there are ratties in North Dakota, there are barely people there! I guess I should mention I'm actually an Oregonian, I'm just in ND for school).

And I'll be very busy with school. I'll have plenty of time for rats that have been socialized, but I doubt I'll have the energy to properly help a rescue. Plus my roommate and boyfriend are pretty anxious about me having rats, I feel like some cute little girls who are friendly right off the bat would be the best way to win them over.

And thanks for all the welcomes! Sorry it took me so long to reply, internet's been in short supply.

Hi CaptinFlow! Welcome. I am currently going through a breeder so we are waiting for our rats to be born. I looked up my breeder at http://www.altpet.net/rodents/breeder.html If you go to ND they list one rat breeder with the email address. The other listing only breeds gerbils. It's a start. You could also google rat breeders and see if any are in your area. Good Luck.
