My three boys used to be so excited to come out of their cage and play with me and each other. However, ever since I upgraded their cage to a double critter nation they are rarely coming out. Also, when they do they just sit on top of the cage for a bit, then they come back inside. The cage is open with me in the playpen for around four hours. I have no clue why, so any info would be great!

Ya, I'm dealing with the same thing. I am finding that changing the free roam area with new boxes and new toys helps. Do you trick train?

How old are they? As they mature, they seem to play less and sleep more

I made a new playpen that is separated from the cage, put the food in it, changed the layout, and added new stuff. Now love to play! I force them out now but boy do they have energy. They wrestle with each other, climb on me, dig, etc. Though they are always trying to jump out to escape, but I think they are happy.

Great! Being away from the cage is helpful, encourages them to be adventurous. Trying to escape is in their nature lol.
