Hello there, I'm fairly new here so I'm sorry for any errors. Also, I'm French, so sorry again for any writing mistakes.
So, on to the story...
Well, I own 5 awesome boys. No idea what their age is. I believe the youngers are 4-6 months old, can't be sure; and I think..The older is the Blue Roan, Minou, aged 2 yo. Then there's Moreau, 1 1/2 yo, and Anduin, 1 yo. All supposed. Not sure.
I was perfectly happy with my first three boys, all adults. They love each other, can't be separated, friends til death.
The Fawn Hooded, Anduin, is the dominant of the cage. He's not a bad one, just a little...too vehement. Not a drop of blood spent, just that sometimes, he can INSIST on pinning one of the other two even if they are on their back, so there's squealing and pushing, nothing bad, really.
But there was a problem.
Three baby boys were given to me. They were very young, two months old at the most.
I let them rest, of course. No need to quarantine except for the albino, I know perfectly where they came from, I know the mom and the dad for the first two but not the albino. Quarantined.
Two days after, I'm introducing them to the big boys (of course in a pure neutral environment.)
All is perfectly well. They sniff, pin each other, Anduin asserts his dominance but, really softly with them. All goes so well, I'm fine with letting them on a cage together (a big one but not used, or only for good reason, like a sick one, something like that.)
All goes well..No screaming, squeaking, nothing.
But then... I went to see if all went fine...
One of the boys was dead.
I don't know what happened. If Anduin killed him I should have heard something...Anything. And nothing...Not a sound...
But he was dead, and all bloody (sorry for the details...) on the belly, the ears, the head.
The other was badly bitten. Ugly bite marks, bloody on his back.
I immediately removed him from the cage, and put him alone until the quarantine of the albino was finished (turned out he's perfectly fine and they live together now, they LOVE each others, like brothers.)
So,know, I'm scared. I don't know what to do. I have a really big cage, meant for 11 rats, and I was dreaming to see them all chill inside... But with Anduin, I can't be sure....
What do you think...? Is it too risky to attempt another go, now they're bigger ?
With the other two big males, no problem. Almost everyday, I let them play outside their cage, no problem ! They run, play fighting, all is good.
But with the dominant....
I certainly won't, and NEVER WILL, abandon him. He is my boy. He loves us. He's all cuddly, licking, grooming us. I love him to death.
Sorry for the long text and again, apologies for any mistakes.
Don't hesitate to ask questions.
Thank you very much.
