I have a pet rat and he's very sick .He's probably two already and I love him so much. He is sick. He has been sneezing almost every 2 seconds and has labored breathing. I took him to the vet and they gave me baytril and doxycycline and I had him on that for a couple weeks with no change. But I am afraid that I may have forgotten his dose too many times and I'm afraid that I had made him resistant to his antibiotics. I brought him back to the vet and they gave him albon to take with the baytril and doxycycline and I gave that to him and that's when I noticed he was really not doing well. I don't know if he was just feeling sick from too many antibiotics at once or what now. My whole colony has this virus. All of them are sick and have symptoms just like his except they're younger so it's probably not as bad. I wonder can he be on three antibiotics at once? Is that safe? I hope so but I don't trust my vet very much at all. He was telling me just to euthanize him when he still jumps around and plays and enjoys life. And is he resistant to antibiotics because of my messing up his dose so many times?
Please if anyone has any advice I need some very badly right now. My pets name is weedoo.

I’m not the best at this as I’m new to owning rats, but all of my 4 rats have respiratory issues (2 have now passed away from it). I would recommend making sure you see an exotic vet, vets who aren’t specialised in rats are normally not of much help and tend to recommend having the rat euthanised. In terms of the medication I’m from the UK and it may be different here, I have mixed medicines before as per my vets advices who I do trust, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right for you boy. If the medicine isn’t working I would recommend taking him to the vets where they can hopefully give him oxygen by nebulising him and a steroid/antibiotic shot. Also just because they are young the breathing issues can still get worse in such a short time, that happened with one of my boys, he was only a baby when I lost him. I’m not to sure in terms of the doses you mentioned, but if he stops eating and has lost a lot of weight and barely moving it’s not a great sign so would be good to get him on oxygen if that’s the case. If not, you should be fine with carrying on medicine, you can also buy a baby nebuliser and do it yourself at home which is what my vet recommended, but trying to get them to sit in the box is a bit of a nightmare. Sorry this may not be great info but hopefully can help a bit.
