I want my rats to paint. I was thinking of putting drops of paint down, letting the ratties walk through the paint and then walk on a blank sheet of paper. I think it would be really cute. Has anyone done this? What is a safe paint to use?

My guess would a non-toxic, water soluble paint like what's made for kids would work well for this. We use it all the time at the daycare I work at for kids to paint, finger paint, and even for baby art, so I'd imagine it's safe for rats too and would just need water or a perfume free baby wipe to wash off. I want to try this now though haha.

I've also been wanting to try this as I purchased a painting by Hornbills (who were trained to paint) from our local aviary, so I wanted to see what it would be like for my ratties (and hamster) to do this. :) Now that I know what kind of paint to use, I just need to buy some flat canvas! :)

You can also try this with stamp ink. Maybe that will be less messy?
