Grrrr... my girls are fighting. We have two, they are about one week apart in age and we got them within 5 days of one another. They've been together almost 4months now and are usually fine. The older rat can sometimes be a little dominant, but up till lately it hasn't been too bad. Over the past week though, i hear the timid one squeaking in submission a LOT more often, and sometimes she's got a little porphyrin around an eye or her nose. Nothing big, just teeny bits which she cleans off and are only present after a lot of squabbling. They still snuggle and sleep together in their house and beds. Could this be a puberty thing? Could it be because there are only 2 of them? Would adding a new younger female to the group help at all to diffuse focus and tension? Any advice y'all may have would be greatly appreciated!

I wonder if they are doing this while in heat?
