So I was messing around with my rats and I noticed that one of them (Basil) had rather long toenails on his back feet. And so I looked them a bit closer and realized that something is wrong with one of his toes. It's still attached, but only by skin. It looks like someone's taken a string, looped it around the toe, and pulled it tight. It's just the tip of the toe. There isn't really any discoloration and it seems like he still feels it. I sniffed it and it didn't smell bad. There's no actual wound, but still it's rather icky looking.

It's quite possible that this is an old injury. He's obviously been beaten by by other rats in the past. He's very shy and has a couple of chunks taken out of one ear. But I'm concerned that something else might be wrong. I've heard that rats can lose toes to ringworm. Does this sound like ring worm to anybody? The rescue I got these two from was rather crowded and I've already had to have them treated for mites. It really could be anything.

So, anybody have any ideas?
