Hi, I've been given a lot of pinecones by a friend for my rat cage, I was wandering if they would be safe for my rats? My friend doesn't use any type of pesticides in their garden so do you think these will be okay for my rats. Thank you🐀:D

Sadly pine wood is not ok for rats, it’s toxic and may fatally kill them. The resin found in pinecones is also not safe for rats, even if you were to wash it! I hope this helped~ ❤🐭

There's a strong argument against if pine is safe for rats. Most people will tell you that pine that is not kiln dried is not safe.

I wouldn't give the pinecones. Like the user above said, the sap is unsafe, as well as the wood. When it comes to safe rat materials, you're better safe than sorry :)
