I would love to get a martins playpen, but I thought I might as well make my own. What type of wire material would you use for that? Is it like "hardware cloth" or something? Help please!

Hardware cloth isnt strong enough, you need to go out and get a good 14 gauge wire (I believe its 14). Only way a hardware cloth works is if you have it connected to a frame of some sort. I know that OSH has the fencing wire with all the different sizes along with what bar spacings...at least the OSH in my area does. Good luck with your playpen project! I'm guessing it's Orchard Supply Hardware, which appears to exist only in California.
