I have prefer to keep my rats in a wire cage but did have one question about drafts.

I have a ceiling fan that I keep on to help circulate the air, and keeps it a little cooler.

Is it ok to have it on with the rats in the same room?

Yes. Most rats enjoy the cool breeze, especially if it's hot.

i have my fans going continually in summer here in aussieland, especially when its hot. i dont like leaving the airconditioner on when i'm not home, but the fans do a good job of keeping the air circulating.

My rat space is just underneath a window. Whenever it is open they will all line up on the sill and feel the breeze in their whiskers. It's quite adorable.
