As you may or may not be aware, Remus has pneumonia for the second time (More info here: http://www.ratforum.com/showthread.php?253066-Recurrent-Pneumonia-( ). TL;DR: The vet doesn't want to throw meds at him like we did last time (concerned for age/quality of life) so we are currently using his old meds.

It's been six days. His lungs are no longer crackling, as they were before; however, he still presents abdominal breathing, has a new symptom of noisy (squeaky) breathing, is pretty lethargic, refuses to eat (even stuff like oatmeal, mac n cheese, bread, etc), is incredibly poofy, isn't grooming himself, and does not want me to touch him in any way (was always a gentle loving rat but has threaten to bite and has screamed when I bother him). He no longer is refusing medication, drinking it nicely for me, but still hates the process of coming out and is awful post-meds. He is, however, drinking. At last check, he had lost 20% of his body weight from December to now.

Here is some media to consider:

Videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyGwUdJ_0qE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRt1BkPtQ-A&feature=youtu.be (In the first video, squeaking sounds are from him. The second could be my other rat who has a URI but I don't believe they are).

I'm now considering the possibility of euthanasia. Last time he had pneumonia, it got this bad but then improved almost overnight, but I don't know if that'll happen again. I also don't know if the vet will be willing to continue treatment. Another group thought he didn't sound bad enough to stop treatment. I don't know. I'm far from impartial.
