Hi! My rat Missy can hold her urine/droppings for half an hour or more when handled, while my other rat, Cookie, can hold it for about two minutes whenever I handle her. My mom thinks she may have a Nervous Bladder, but I thought might as well be safe and check in with some experts. Does Cookie have a bladder infection or something? I try to handle my rats an equal amount of time, but I feel like I hold Missy more because she can hold it in.

Thanks!!

Are you sure she is peeing on you rather than scent marking? A UTI is normally indicated by blood in the urine. I do not think this is what she has. How old are the girls and how socialized are they? What is their current diet? Youngsters tend to struggle more with holding in their urine and waste. They normally get better at this with age and then get worse as seniors. She may also be more afraid of her environment than her sister and the fear may be making her fear poop. This type of excrement tends to be smellier.

There isn't any blood in it, I know because she urinates in me a lot, they are pretty well socialised, and I have no clue how old they are, but she is almost 12 inches long from nose to tail. I feed them food pellets, the big kinds from Kaytee, I'm trying to get them Reagal Rat when I can.

It does sound like she's scent marking. My girl Myrtle does it all the time, but my other two girls don't. Be honored it means she loves you and you are hers. ;) It's charming, I know.
