Hi!

I've read about "rat shows," which are, apparently, very similar to dog or cat shows.

Augustus is nearing the three month mark, now, and his great personality is beginning to show itself. I don't know if he's what the show people consider a "winner," but he's a winner to me, and I thought it might be fun (for both of us) to do a rat show once or twice. He'll get to smell a lot of other rats, and I'll get to meet people who are rat enthusiasts.

The only thing is...

How do I find out if there is a rat show in the San Diego area?

Also, here is a newer picture of 'Gusty, so if you are familiar with rat
shows, and see something about him that will disqualify him immediately,
please let me know. (All I know is that he's a "hoodie," and I think his dark hair is actually "ticked.")

Look and see if there is a Rat Fan club in your area. If there are any rescues near you, they should know if there is one. You can also look into 'virtual' shows, where people online show their rat via pictures and a judges pannel gives the verdict.

Good luck :)

Show quality hoodeds have extrenely straight lines down their backs, and the 'hood' is straight as well, going over the shoulders evenly.

Disqualifications, I think, are broken lines, incomplete hood....grr, I can't quite remember them.

I believe all of the rats pictured in that guide are show quality rats. It doesn't specify disqalifications but it gives good standards for shows.
