I've heard that rats and mice get irritated by computers, something to do with high frequencies given off by computers that humans can't hear but it drives rats crazy? does anyone know whether this is true or not because if thats the case i don't want to keep my girls anywhere near the tv or computer...

I've also heard that the noise that guinea pigs make is distressing for rats.. and i've got two guinea pigs that squeal bloody murder all the time... so i'm hoping thats not true!?!

can anyone shed some light on these situations for me?!

Guinness sleeps on my laptop.... :lol: I don't think it distresses him at all...

As for the piggies, I'm sure any loud noise like that would startle and frighten the ratties, who are sensitive to loud noises... ones they aren't used to at least.

I keep my rats in the living room and the tv and computer are always going. They don't seem to mind at all. I also have 4 guinea pigs about 6 feet away. They are always weeeeeking especially around breakfast and dinner time. My rats pay them no mind.

I think as long as when you get the rats and put them in an environment that is normally noisy. Then they get use to it. Whereas if you put them somewhere where its always quiet. Then noises can sound strange to them and startle them. I think that would pretty much go for any animal.

Same here, our rats love to climb on our laptops, when we forget to move them out of the way. Our dark-eyed rat also likes to watch tv, sometimes.

I've never noticed them having any problem with the computers. Two of my boys, Nip & Tuck, love to "type" on the keyboard.

yes, my ratties love typing too, and are quite happy to have their contributions added to any emails i send, lol

When Guinness types he usually closes every window I have open and tries to shut down the computer. 8O Maybe he's demanding more time. :lol:

ha, thats cute, well thats a relief, i was more worried about the guinea pigs since they're closer to the guinea pigs than to the tv. But if they weren't used to noise before they will be shortly, i've got two guinea pigs and a bird in my house and that bird can sqwack louder than anything i've ever heard in my life.
