I can't get my rats to chew on their chews. What should I do?

Rats can get by without chewing. However, the quick answer is to find chews they will chew. Soak yours in juice, even. They make flavored chews which are probably worth pursuing.

Not all rats like to chew. Mine do have one chew they enjoy but other than that I've probably gone through over a dozen they haven't touched before I got the idea they aren't interested. They do not actually require things to chew on as they can wear their teeth down naturally by grinding them together. Some do enjoy it, so it's good to supply them with things, but many don't.

You can try to give them something yummy to chew on like chicken bones. Or as nanashi7 said, juice. Although they might just lick them.

Use a natural piece of fallen wood. My ratties love to grind it down to little bits. ;)

Rats do not require chews as they can grind their teeth down by themselves. However, gnawing and chewing is a great natural activity for them that should be encouraged!

Bones, raw or cooked, make great chewing toys that are very nutritious. Raw bones should be removed within a few hours to prevent spoilage, but cooked bones can be left in the cage until they've been completely stripped of excess tissue and marrow.

Rib bones are a favorite in my mischief.
