is it okay to buy those coloful raw hide bird toys for rats? they're so bright and coloful i would love to put some in the new cage

Raw hide can expand in their digestive tracks and cause blockages. I wouldn't chance it... try the wooden ones instead.

By rawhide, do you mean the leather strappy type bird toys? They are fine. My rats love to chew them up! I usually have at least two of those rope/leather type toys in the cage at all times.

raw hide, like the thing a dog would chew isnt good. i work at a pet store and we warn people about over doing raw hide with dogs...so imagine a rat with it. its hard for them to digst and too much can result in constipation, majo blockage, and no good stuff.
